Heather Linaker has a detailed understanding of what makes a company ‘tick’, having progressed from the bottom to the top of the Australian arm of leading global publisher John Wiley & Sons. Through six roles over 19 years, she mastered the management of a diverse range of functional areas including sales, marketing, business analysis, project management, relationship management, technology, auditing, strategic financial management, human resources and remuneration. She had been Managing Director of Wiley’s Australian operations (responsible for about 250 employees) for more than two years when she left at the end of 2010. In this and earlier roles, she travelled extensively—nationally and internationally—thus enhancing her sound appreciation of both Australian and global perspectives.

Over the last three years, Heather has built a portfolio career specialising in executive coaching. This has three main components:

  • As Queensland State Director and Executive Coach for the Stephenson Mansell Group (SMG), one of Australia’s leading executive development firms. SMG partners with clients to enhance individual, team and organisational performance and is recognised as a preferred supplier to many leading private and public sector organisations. Heather has a dual role at SMG: managing relationships with existing and new clients in Queensland, and as an Executive Coach within the Coaching & Mentoring Practice.
  • As an Executive Coach in Queensland University of Technology’s (QUT’s) Graduate School of Business, working with participants in various Masters and corporate programmes.
  • As a CEO & Executive Coach Specialist in her own business, aventura3 Pty Ltd, which she founded in 2011.
  • She also writes regularly for national business-related publications such as The Weekend Australian and The CEO Magazine (see Writing page).
